Les Frères des Ecoles Chrétiennes du District D’Afrique Centrale recommandent à vos prières Frère Martin Leonardus SONNEMANS.

Frère Martin Leonardus SONNEMANS, précédemment de la communauté des Frères des Ecoles Chrétiennes à Lomié, dans le diocèse de Doumé-Abong-Mbang, est décédé à l’hôpital central de Yaoundé, ce 1er mars 2023, à l’âge de 90 ans, dont 74 années de vie religieuse.

De nationalité Néerlandaise, Frère Martin Leonardus SONNEMANS naquît le 27 septembre 1932 à Someren. Il entre au noviciat des Frères des Ecoles Chrétiennes en 1949 et fait ses premiers vœux en 1951 et les vœux perpétuels en 1957.

Durant toute sa vie de missionnaire, Frère Martin s’est consacré à la formation de jeunes catéchistes et agriculteurs au Centre d’agriculture et d’élevage. Il a su captiver l’attention des jeunes élèves du CETI Saint Joseph de Diang par son ardeur au travail et surtout son amour pour le travail bien fait.

Frère Martin a été un religieux qui, malgré son âge, a su s’adapter aux différents changements de la société et de l’Eglise. Avec ses jeunes confrères, il a été un exemple de fidélité à travers la rigueur et la régularité dans ses activités aussi bien professionnelles que spirituelles. Sa vie a été un témoignage vivant du Christ qu’il a servi. Gardant toujours le sourire, il se rendait toujours disponible aux sollicitations des confrères et de tous ceux qui avaient besoin de ses services. Son humilité le portait à l’écoute de ses confrères et au service gratuit. Frère Martin se montrait toujours patient, même par rapport à son retour vers Celui qu’il a servi durant toute sa vie. Lorsqu’on lui posait la question de savoir quel est son secret de tenir aussi longtemps quand même tous ses compagnons avaient rejoints la maison du Père, il répondait avec sourire : « J’attends ». Frère Martin a su attendre son heure en serviteur bon et fidèle.

Brother Martin Leonardus SONNEMANS, formerly of the community of the Brothers of the Christian Schools in Lomié, in the Diocese of Doumé-Abong-Mbang, passed away in the Central Hospital of Yaoundé, on 1 March 2023, at the age of 90, after 74 years of religious life.

Brother Martin Leonardus SONNEMANS was born on 27 September 1932 in Someren. He entered the novitiate of the Brothers of the Christian Schools in 1949 and made his first vows in 1951 and perpetual vows in 1957.

Throughout his missionary life, Brother Martin devoted himself to the training of young catechists and farmers at the Agricultural and Livestock Centre. He was able to captivate the attention of the young students of the CETI Saint Joseph of Diang by his zeal for work and especially his love for a job well done.

Brother Martin was a religious who, despite his age, knew how to adapt to the different changes in society and the Church. With his young confreres, he was an example of fidelity through rigour and regularity in his activities, both professional and spiritual. His life was a living witness to Christ whom he served. Always keeping a smile on his face, he always made himself available to the requests of his confreres and of all those who needed his services. His humility led him to listen to his confreres and to offer free service. Brother Martin was always patient, even when it came to his return to the One he had served all his life. When asked what his secret was for holding out so long when even all his companions had returned to the Father’s house, he answered with a smile: “I am waiting”. Brother Martin knew how to wait for his time as a good and faithful servant.

Je vous salue dans le Nom de notre Seigneur et Sauveur Jésus-Christ, maître de nos vies, de notre mort et de notre résurrection. C’est dans cet esprit que je vous annonce la douloureuse et choquante nouvelle que l’un des nôtres, le Frère Peter Obi, FSC est décédé, ce jour, 22 février 2023, au jeune âge de 36 ans dont deux ans dans la Profession Perpétuelle. Il était directeur de la communauté de Naka et sous-directeur du programme de postulat de Naka, au Nigeria.  Il est tombé malade, admis à l’hôpital et aux soins fraternels des Frères lorsqu’il est décédé.

(-) Les dispositions pour les funérailles seront communiquées lorsque le Frère Godwin, coordinateur du secteur, se serait accordé avec l’évêque du diocèse catholique de Makurdi, le Révérend Wilfred C. Anagbe, CMF.

Unissons-nous dans la prière pour que l’âme de notre défunt frère soit accueillie par les anges au ciel. Prions également pour sa famille biologique et les Frères de la communauté de Naka qui sont actuellement inconsolables de ce choc.

OBITUARY

Dear Brothers/ Lasallians 

Greetings through Our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, the author who holds the key to our life, our death and our resurrection; and it is in this spirit that I break to you the painful and shocking news that one of us, Br Peter Obi, FSC has passed away, this day, 22nd February 2023, at the young age of 36 and two-year-old in Perpetual Profession. He was serving as Director of Naka Community and Sub Director of the Naka Postulancy Programme Naka, Nigeria.  He took ill and was receiving treatment at the hospital and in the care of the Brothers when he passed on.

(-) The funeral arrangements will be communicated when Brother Godwin, the Sector Coordinator, has a conversation with the Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Makurdi, Rev Wilfred C. Anagbe, CMF.

Let us unite in prayer for the soul of our deceased Brother to be welcomed by angels in heaven, also for his biological family and the Brothers in Naka community who currently are in shock and disbelief.
